At Quaaout Lodge & Spa at Talking Rock Golf Resort, our cultural interpreters will be happy to take you on a tour of the grounds or answer any questions you may have about the area. There are a number of exciting cultural experiences in our area to enjoy.

SMUDGE

SMUDGE | 15 min Secwepemc tradition to cleanse the body. A smudging ceremony is carried out for the purpose of clearing negative energy, and inviting peace and harmony into one’s life. Complimentary

WALK THE LANDS TOUR

WALK THE LANDS | 75 min – Your cultural interpretive guide will begin by welcoming you with a smudge, then lead you around Secwepemc territory while sharing teachings about our Shuswap traditional landmarks and Secwepemc history.

ETHNABOTANY TOUR

ETHNOBOTANY | 75 min – Your cultural interpretive guide will begin by welcoming you with a smudge, then lead you around Secwepemc territory while sharing teachings about our Shuswap traditional landmarks along with different types of plants we still use today for medicines and food.

*please note that this tour is seasonal and only available in certain months*

KEKULI STORYTELING

KEKULI STORYTELLING | 75 min – Imagine what it would feel like to live in a “Kekuli” or pit-house, the traditional winter home of the Secwepemc people. Listen to stories around a fire of how our people lived before Europeans arrived up to the modern day. Your cultural interpretive guide will begin this experience with a smudge.

DRUM MAKING

DRUM MAKING | 2-3 hours – Create your own deer hide drum and listen to Secwepemc teachings & history. Drums are approximately 16″.

$250 per person

ROCK PAINTING

ROCK PAINTING | 45 min – Listen to traditional Secwepemc teachings and create your own design on local rocks. Great for kids!

$15 per person

PADDLE PAINTING

PADDLE PAINTING | 60 min – Listen to traditional Secwepemc teachings and create your own design on a wooden paddle, or learn to paint a traditional pictograph.

$65 per person

DREAM CATCHER MAKING

DREAM CATCHER MAKING | 2-3 hours – Create your own dreamcatcher! Dreamcatchers are a spiritual tool used to help assure good dreams to those that sleep under them. A dreamcatcher is usually hung over a place you would sleep where the morning light can hit it.
