Shuswap Heritage: Cultural Experiences at Quaaout Lodge

Quaaout Lodge and Spa at Talking Rock Golf Resort, located on the south shore of Little Shuswap Lake, is more than just a beautiful lodge: we’re also a tranquil spa, our Talking Rock Golf Course is among the very best of BC’s Indigenous golf courses, and we are a destination for cultural activities in Chase, British Columbia, Canada. Our band members are proud to share our Indigenous culture with Quaaout’s valued guests. Our cultural interpreters would be honoured to guide you through one (or all!) of our many cultural experiences.

Cultural activities and experiences you can enjoy at Quaaout Lodge:

Smudge (15 MIN)

At Quaaout Lodge, we offer complementary daily smudges at 9:30am to clear negative energy and promote peace and harmony. Space is limited! Please sign up with the cultural department to reserve your spot.

Rock Painting (45 MIN)

Create your own creations on local rocks while learning about Secwepemc teachings. Rock painting is a great, kid-friendly activity, very popular with the families that come to stay on our shores!

Spiritual Guidance (60 MIN)

Our custom-tailored spiritual guidance experience begins with a smudge to cleanse both body and soul.

Walk the Lands Tour (75 MIN)

Your tour will begin with a smudge ceremony. Then, your cultural interpreter will guide you around the Skwlax (“black bear” in the Shuswap language) territory and share traditional teachings about Secwepemc history and our traditional Shuswap landmarks.

Ethnobotany Tour (75 MIN)

As with our Walk the Lands Tour, our Ethnobotany Tour begins with a smudging ceremony. Then, your cultural guide will lead you around our land and share teachings about our traditional landmarks and the plants we use for medicine and food.

Kekuli Storytelling (75 MIN)

Transcend time as you sit around a roaring fire and listen to stories about living in a Kekuli: the Secwepemc people’s traditional winter home. After a smudge, our cultural interpreter will share tales about how our people lived from before the European people arrived through to modern day.

 Paddle Painting (90 MIN)

Create your very own pictographs or design your own paddle while you learn about Secwepemc teachings.

 Snowshoe Tour (1-3 HRS)

Strap on some snowshoes and trek through Secwepemc territory while learning Secwepemc stories and traditions before visiting a Kekuli and sitting around a warm fire.

Drum Making Workshop (2-3 HRS)

Create your very own 16-inch deer hide drum while listening about Secwepemc Indigenous heritage.
